Address to the Nation: Putting in the Reps

Putting in the reps will prepare you for whatever life has waiting for you. It’s about putting in those reps time and time again, because at some point you’re going to have to answer the bell, you’re going to have to step into the arena, you’re going to have to step in front of the spotlight, and if you’re not ready, you’re going to get called out.

I’m at a point with what I’m doing where I’ve put in the reps, I’ve put in tonnes of reps, but now there’s no more practicing. There’s no more going back to the drawing board to see whether you have it or you don’t.

It’s a matter of: all the work you put in, all the hours you said you were working, did you really do them? If so, you should be happy, but if you’ve been faking yourself, if you’ve been faking your teammates, if you’ve been faking the ones around you, that will show, too.

I’m speaking from a point where I’m in the good here, I know I’ve put in those hours, I know I’ve put in the work. But I know there are other parts of my life where I didn’t put in the work and the exact thing happened where I wasn’t ready, I wasn’t strong enough, I didn’t show the character that I wanted to.

So, speaking to all you guys out there: put in the reps, no matter what it is, whether it’s your school work, whether it’s your job, whether it’s hockey; whatever sport you’re playing. Put in the reps, put in the practice, put in the hours – and not just the normal hours. Put in the extra hours, put in the things that go the extra mile. Push it 120% because everyone’s doing the norm.

At the beginning of every season, everyone says they want to be on top, everyone wants to be the last man standing. In business, everyone wants to climb the ladder to becoming the CEO or the CFO. Everybody wants to be at the top. But it’s only the ones who are willing to put in the work day in, day out, no matter where they are in life, no matter what the situation is – they wake up, they put in and put in, and they keep going.

They put in all those reps so when it’s their time, when they step into the stadium and the bright lights are on them, they shine the brightest.
