Week 10: And the winner (of the quiz I took) is…

You may remember a couple of blogs ago, in week 6, I took a few team sorting quizzes. It was to get a bit of a feel for which team I identified with.

If you do, you may also remember that there was one suggested to me by Twitter user @alyssastweeting – called NHL Sorter on Tumblr by Jessee Pinkman – which I said I would take once I had seen all the teams play games.

This Tumblr quiz is best described as an optional sorter. It prompts you to pick your favored team from two options. You can also select ‘I like both’ or ‘No opinion’.

Four weeks ago (not including the few weeks I took off for holidays) I didn’t feel like I could take this quiz because I didn’t really have enough reference for the teams to choose between them.

Now I do. So, I took the quiz. And I was not surprised at all.

My results:

I don’t think it is any secret that I have been more and more drawn to the Habs and Sharks. I have really been enjoying these teams – on and off ice.

The Sharks make me laugh. They’re gimmicky but not in a gross way. They’re fun, funny and dem beards.

The Habs I’m drawn to because… I’m actually not completely sure as to why. I’ve been drawn to them from the start. I really like Carey Price – I think he’s such a great goalie. Did you see that INCREDIBLE glove save he made against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday?

And I like the way the team plays. But I don’t know what that extra something else is that’s making me love the Habs. I’ll assess that and get back to you.

The Habs and Sharks are two of the 12 teams I have remaining on my list of contenders, alongside: Columbus Blue Jackets, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, LA Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings.

Grassroots podcast host Quincy Kennedy has been pushing his team – the Red Wings – hard on me lately. While they’re still in my list, they come at #22 in my sorter results. Apparently I just don’t favour them over other teams – even ones I have cut.

I cut the eight teams (Ottawa, Colorado, Minnesota, Leafs, Boston, NY Islanders and Winnipeg) that ahead of the Red Wings last week.

I’m not cutting the Wings just yet. Actually, I’m not cutting any teams this week. I am enjoying the process I am going through. Watch games, assess teams then brutally slash the ones I ain’t digging from the list.

Speaking of teams I don’t dig. Grassroots co-host and Leafs fan Mat Lindsay didn’t say anything about me cutting his team last week. However, you’ll hear me being slightly scalded by Mat’s dad, Steve, in Monday’s episode.

Maybe ‘scald’ is too strong a word.

Steve, whom I work with closely through the Newcastle North Stars AIHL team, told me it was OK that I could be wrong in my choices. Sorry Steve. The Leafs just don’t do it for me!

Thank you to everyone who has been playing along. I’ve loved getting all your suggestions. Even the banter about following their team.

For the jokers who are all like “the season will be over by the time you pick a team”. Calm yo self. The end is in sight. In a few more short week you will all have your answer. ‘Til then, happy NHL watching.
